Superstorm Sandy Settlement Agreement Also Covered Claim for Damage to Insureds' Property Caused by Subsequent Storm, N.J. Court Decides
A federal district court in New Jersey has ruled that a settlement agreement between property owners and their insurance company that resolved the insureds' claim for damage caused to their property by Superstorm Sandy also covered their claim for damage caused to their property by a later storm that occurred prior to execution of the settlement agreement. Read More

Bond Covering "Fraudulent Entry" Into Insured's Computer Referred to "Hacking," New York's Highest Court Rules
New York's highest court, the New York Court of Appeals, has ruled that an insuring agreement for computer systems fraud that applied to "a fraudulent entry of Electronic Data or Computer Program" did not encompass losses caused by an authorized user's submission of allegedly fraudulent information into the insured's computer system but, rather, only to unauthorized access into the system — "hacking" of the system. Read More

Truck Driver Was a "Lent Employee" Who Could Not Sue "Special Employer" for Negligence, Arizona Appeals Court Rules
An appellate court in Arizona, affirming a trial court's decision, has ruled that a truck driver was a "lent employee" who could not sue the company to which he was lent for injuries he allegedly had suffered in an accident while driving that company's truck. Read More

GASB Publishes New Standards for Reporting Health Insurance and Other Retiree Benefits
The Governmental Accounting Standards Board has published two Statements it intends will improve the accounting and financial reporting by state and local governments for postemployment benefits other than pensions, primarily retiree health insurance. The GASB also issued a third Statement establishing accounting and financial reporting requirements for pensions and pension plans that were outside the scope of the pension standards the GASB released in 2012. Read More
