In Cheney v. Standard Ins. Co., No. 13 C 4269 (N.D. Ill. Aug. 28, 2014), the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois decided that Carole Cheney, an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis LLP who eventually became a non-share partner specializing in appellate and commercial litigation, was entitled to receive disability benefits under a group long term disability plan offered through Kirkland & Ellis by Standard Insurance Company.
