Good morning, Resource Investors.

Data on existing home sales helped gold end a multi-session losing streak. Palladium and silver also rose, while copper remained unchanged. Perhaps more significant, gold's rise came amid a strengthening dollar. The increase suggests demand for the yellow metal was enough to overcome the increased purchasing power of the greenback. With India's wedding season still active -- India's gold consumer's are the world's most prolific -- that demand could remain strong for some time.

In the energy markets, crude oil prices rose through mid-week last week as the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged. The weekly DOE report helped sustain a dollar-sparked rally as crude inventories increased less than expected. Technically, the crude market appeared toppy, with the prospects of additional high inventory figures weighing on prices.

Both energies and metals have kept a close eye on regulatory developments the past week. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has upped the volume of its demands for increased position limits in these markets. The futures industry has vowed to fight the measure, with some pundits suggesting this is a high-risk approach, potentially attracting even more regulatory scrutiny.

For more on the reasons behind these moves, see these headlines, where you can catch up on what happened in the resource markets this past week -- and prepare for the next.
