Fears Fuel Travel Insurance Buys
With travel plans increasingly at risk from natural disasters and economic pressures, travelers are purchasing coverage for potential trip cancellations in greater numbers, expanding opportunities for insurers and agents. Buyers, however, don't always understand the limits of coverage, while some sellers offering broader terms—such as "cancel for any reason"—are increasing the industry's exposure, according to Grace Meek of Delos Insurance Group and Bill Dismore of iTravelInsured.
Gulf Oil Spill Cleanup Spotlights Need For Environmental Liability Plan
Established remediation contractors and an 'armada' of newcomers face big exposures as they take part in the environmental cleanup response to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico, according to Joshua Bowen, VP of the environmental insurance division of Meadowbrook's Century Surety Company, who outlines the coverages required to insure such large-scale cleanup efforts.
NAIC Confident Uniform Surplus Lines Distribution Ready By November
Recommendations to the states for the collection of surplus lines taxes from insurance regulators should be in place by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners' November meeting, Louisiana Insurance Commissioner James J. Donelon, chair of the NAIC Surplus Lines Task Force, said at the summer meeting earlier this month.
Producer, Carrier Groups Unite For N.Y. Surplus Lines Hearing
The New York Department of Insurance held a public hearing on whether to add more coverages to the state's excess and surplus lines "export" list—allowing agents to place business in the E&S market without first receiving declinations of admitted carriers. Coverages proposed to be added to the export list include: auto physical damage for commercial trucks, black cars and limos; high excess disability coverage; recreational liability insurance for parachuting and bungee jumping.
Integro Merges With Frost Specialty
New York-based insurance brokerage Integro announced it has completed a merger with Nashville, Tenn.-based Frost Specialty, LLC, an insurance agency specializing in the music industry.
