As I recall, Democrats maintained emphatically during the Bush II years that dissent was patriotic. In principle, they were right. In practice, the anti-war movement disappeared once Obama was elected, and so proved itself not to be an anti-war movement, but an anti-Bush movement. Political, but not patriotic. Mark Generales rightly points out that the leftist ideology pursued by the Obama administration must ultimately manifest itself in a totalitarian form. We have already witnessed abrogration of the rule of law in the Chrysler bankruptcy, in the Fast & Furious scandal, in the recent executive order for the Dream Act and thereby circumventing Congress. When a government has as much antipathy for the US Constitution and rule of law as this one does, criticism is the first recourse toward remedy.
