They totally overlooked the fact 401K plans did not come into being until the early 1980s and individual investment selection did not become popular until the mid to late 90s so their conclusions are based on faulty assumptions/data. There may be some correlation, but it wasn't proven by their study. In addition, what portion of retirement assets are actually in retirement plans with individual investment direction. Finally did they consider the buying/investment power of those not in the Baby Boomer group? There are more of them than there are baby Boomers.
