Paige Bennett joined as a Partner to form the firm’s Labor & Employment Group after a distinguished litigation career as a Deputy District Attorney in California and lawyer with both Bracewell and Reed Smith.
Heath Novosad joined as a Partner after 15 years of high stakes civil litigation at Bracewell. He earned his B.B.A. and J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin.
Sarah Ring, intellectual property Partner, handles patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation in federal and state courts across the country. She previously practiced intellectual property litigation at Akin Gump.
Ellen Peeples clerked for the Texas Supreme Court, served as a chambers staff attorney for the Court of Appeals for the First District of Texas, and worked at Locke Lord. Ellen focuses on complex-commercial litigation.
Kristin Kruse Lotz joined the firm after serving as a briefing attorney for the Fourteenth Court of Appeals and working at Winstead. Kristin recently received the Houston Bar Association President’s Award.
Jill Schumacher is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and she has been elected to serve as Treasurer of the Houston Bar Association Appellate Practice Section.
Rachel Machisak joined the firm after working in Reed Smith’s nationally acclaimed labor and employment practice group. She has represented companies in wage and hour and discrimination matters.
Kasia Olkowski brings 20 years of paralegal experience to the firm from her work at Kirkland & Ellis and Bracewell. Kasia is a certified paralegal and assists with all aspects of the firm’s litigation practice.
Sara Bean is an experienced legal assistant who graduated magna cum laude from Rice University. She previously woked at O’Connors, a publisher of respected content for the Texas legal market.

Barksdale “Dale” Hortenstine is a former National Leader of the Joint Venture and Partnership Tax Services Group of Ernst & Young’s National Tax Department and a former Partner at Andrews and Kurth for over 20 years. Dale was heavily involved in the original development and implementation of the master limited partnership (“MLP”) structure that has served as a very effective means for raising equity capital in the oil and gas and natural resource industries.
