Good morning, Resource Investors.

Gold had a wait-and-see approach the last several days, looking for the Fed to tip its hand. When the policymaker said it would keep its target for short-term interest rates at historically low levels on Tuesday, the U.S. dollar took a hit and the precious metal got a boost. Gold's April futures contract gained $17.10 an ounce on the news, climbing to more than $1,220.

The copper market also moved in response to the dollar, with the May contract rising 6.5 cents to $3.37 a pound. The effect of weak February housing starts, which showed that starts fell 5.9% for the month to an annualized rate of 575,000, was muted as traders' interest appeared firmly planted on the greenback.

Last week, a choppy crude oil market made eight-week highs over $83 a barrel. The weekly inventory stats fueled the rise, along with forecasts from both the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and the Energy Information Agency for higher global demand. However, last Friday's consumer sentiment report that showed weak U.S. consumer confidence did weigh on oil prices.

For more on the reasons behind these moves, see these headlines, where you can catch up on what happened in the resource markets this past week -- and prepare for the next.
